Allen Friedlander

Sports Stories

Allen Friedlander was born in 1954, an identical twin. He and his brother Arnie grew up in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, sharing an interest in art and sports. Later, perfunctorily, he earned a college degree in Psychology. But it was not until 1982, when a drawing he had just completed during a work break received the enthusiastic admiration of a co-worker, that Allen resolved to develop his talent. Thereafter, he was committed.

Using lead pencils of six grades of hardness, Allen draws from popular photographs with a technique and an attention to detail which imbues his subjects with emotional vitality and raises the drawing to a point beyond photorealism.

In January and February 2000, The Butler Museum of Youngstown, Ohio presented nineteen of his original drawings.

From a limited edition of 250 signed and numbered black and white lithographs, HUSTONTOWN offers eight exquisite sport drawings. Unframed size is 15"x25". $299 per drawing.
